Scalemaster v Powerflushing

Strong language from Dennis Brown, Managing Director of Scalemaster in Heating and Plumbing Monthly (April 2002 Page 17), as he launches an attack on companies promoting power flushing. Near the knuckle innuendo that does not actually lead anywhere.

I imagine (my opinion) the majority of systems currently being power flushed were filled or refilled with water in the days when inhibitor was relatively unheard of. Dennis cites BS7593:1992 which I confess I do not have given the rip-off price of British Standards but I am confident that any system I jet flush would stand up to scrutiny by anyone. Bear in mind all standards are minimum standards and many of those I would adjust given a chance.

Dennis also cites poor jet-flushing which of course is not the fault of companies promoting jet flushing, providing they offer good technical information and support. Those guilty of poor jet flushing techniques would certainly not be inclined to fit his in-line heating system protector, which provides protection if inhibitor falls below manufacturer’s recommended dosing or is subsequently mixed with other products.

I acknowledge it is not an option I have had occasion to study before and would have been more inclined to if the full page had been focused entirely on design, development, understanding, installation and use of the product, instead of the spurious arguments. I could then easily have reached my own conclusions.

I have not circled the enquiry number on the free reader enquiry service and will wait for a more intelligent and reasoned approach to the subject.

Editor 24.03.2007 - I intend to re-visit this item as it could be interesting to look back at the detail. If I forget here, let me know.
