CORGI registrations

For the benefit of lay folk, CORGI are charged with a duty (by the HSE) to maintain a Register of Businesses, not individuals. They therefore supply annual statistics on the number of Registered Businesses.

As the law requires everyone working on gas to be competent, CORGI also need to know who is working on gas, and what they are competent to do. That includes employees and sole proprietor businesses.

However, many employees of Registered Businesses are also Registered Businesses in their own name. That is so they can undertake work on their own behalf, when not working for an employer. Employees cannot legally work on their own behalf, unless they are personally registered as a business.

You can calculate figures and/or read our analysis below:

The figures show a needed increase in the number of Registered Businesses (8.44%) over the previous year but 7.05% over two years. The total number of competent operatives has increased by 6.54% over the previous year but 8.38% over two years.

Actual operatives numbers have increased by only 4.4% from the previous year and 3.46% over two years. However, the number of dual registrations has increased by 53% over the year and 66.5% over two years.

An increase in Registered Businesses was to be expected given the hiccup of ACS transition last year but the trend on numbers of operatives (employees) is not as healthy as it needs to be.

The strongest gains are obviously in the numbers of dual registrations, with a year on year increase, which is healthy.
